Soper’s Hole–West End
Locally, this area is known as West End and is rarely called Soper’s Hole. It is a picturesque harbor with brightly colored shops and restaurants on shore and one of the best day stops for recharging the spirit and reprovisioning the boat.
45 slips with power, 20-protected moorings, water, ice, fuel, repair services, marine railway and lift, showers, garbage drop-off, groceries, restaurants, bars, ATM, gift shops, dive shop, laundry and internet service. West End is a port of entry. Customs and Immigration is located upstairs in the ferry building on the north side of the harbor.
It is handy, being midway between Jost Van Dyke and the smaller southern islands. Also a good location to clear in or out of the BVI at Customs and Immigration in the ferry building. If you spend the night, there is usually a good breeze to help keep cool. Taxis into Road Town can be found at the ferry dock, and there is a small dinghy float just east of the ferry building for clearing customs or picking up or dropping off passengers arriving or departing by ferry.
Soper’s Hole is a good mid-trip stopping point. Once moored and cleared, dinghy over to the Jolly Roger Restaurant and Hotel on the north side, a favorite with cruisers for good food and nightlife or the Soper’s Hole complex on the southeast.
From the dock, you can purchase water to top the tanks, something that seems to be more necessary than fuel with most charter boats. Or, your crew can go ashore to provision at either of two stores, the Ample Hamper to the west or the Harbour Market offering many gourmet items and wine. Shop in the local stores for gifts for friends back home. Behind the colorful stores and across the street is Pisces, a cybercafé, which offers convenient internet connections or Wi-Fi for checking the internet and email on your own laptop. Grab lunch or dinner at Pusser’s Landing and watch the boats come and go in the harbor. The colorful shops of Soper’s Hole make it one of the most photographed locations in the BVI.
Pusser’s is a favorite throughout the BVI. The Soper’s Hole location is open air with table sand umbrellas overlooking the West End harbor. A good stop for drinks, lunch or dinner. Pusser’s also has one of their stores here featuring their logoed products and other items for visitors.
